Katy Perry returned towards the metropolis she now calls residence, Los angeles, on August 5 for the three-night stint at the Nokia Theater, the latest quit on her California Dreams Tour. And although her crowd-pleasing set was filled with shocking handles (which includes Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" plus a mashup of Rihanna's "Only Woman Within the World"/Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair"/Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin'"), it had been another cover, of Rebecca Black's "Friday" with fellow California gurl Rebecca herself becoming a member of in, that was the greatest shock of all. And it just so transpired to get a Friday evening!
Katy appears established to assist Rebecca Black--or "the notorious Rebecca Black," as Katy launched her towards the Nokia crowd--extend her 15 minutes of fame. Rebecca lately produced a cameo in Katy's "Last Friday Night" video (actively playing the BFF of Katy's geek-girl alter ego, Kathy Beth Terry), and when the two reunited onstage this week, Katy beamed at her like a proud mom figure. Their shock duet ended having a hug, after which Katy sweetly declared, "That was our minute," referencing Rebecca's new "My Moment" single.
Ironically, though, Katy upstaged her younger charge, as her exceptional "Friday" vocals absolutely confused Rebecca's reedier voice. (And Katy's fluffy pink circus-girl get-up undoubtedly took attention far from Rebecca's a lot more sedate gray tunic and black leggings.) But that didn't matter--the unison singing through the sold-out Nokia crowd for the duration of this a cappella duet pretty much drowned out both women, specially when partyin', partyin' spectators chanted the song's "yeahs" correct on cue.
Declared Katy afterward , "Damn it, I really like the net!" And we're certain Rebecca feels the very same way. The 14-year-old viral video sensation's existence is currently a California dream come accurate.
